Biography

"There are eighty-eight keys on a piano and within that, an entire universe" - J. Rhodes

Poland

Anna began her piano education in Katowice, Poland at the age of five. Her piano teacher and mentor, Prof. Franciszek Mizia, was a Masters pupil of Halina Czerny-Stefanska who was a First Prize winner at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. Mizia’s profound understanding of the physical, psychological and musical elements of piano technique strongly influenced Anna as a performer, and later as a teacher.

Anna continued her musical education in the beautiful and historic city of Krakow, one of the intellectual centers of Europe, and the cradle of the Polish music tradition that shaped musicians and composers such as Chopin, Rubinstein, and Penderecki.

In 1992 at the Krakow Academy of Music, Anna received her Master’s Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy, with distinctions for her Masters Thesis and final piano recital.

"One does not play the piano with one's fingers: one plays the piano with one's mind"- G. Gould

The Art of Piano

Anna’s great passion is in music education. Her thorough knowledge of the ‘art of piano’ has enabled her to inspire generations of young, and passionate pianists. Following the European tradition of approaching music education holistically, in her lessons, Anna incorporates Dalcroze Eurhythmics. It engages student creativity and uses visualization techniques. She encourages daily piano practice, time management, and self-motivation.

Anna is also a ‘teacher of teachers’, working with Australian piano teachers and instrumentalists on their teaching and performance techniques

"We Are the Music Makers..."

"... and we are the dreamers of dreams"- A.W.E. O'Shaughnessy

As a pianist, Anna loves performing challenging 20th century piano repertoire. She enjoys every opportunity to collaborate with other musicians, especially as a part of a chamber ensemble.

Anna is always excited to try new things such as singing with the Sydney Philharmonia Choir or learning harpsichord which she had a chance to demonstrate at St Joseph’s College, performing as a Baroque Consort with its tutors and scholars.
